Painting the Iliathan Warhost: A Fully Painted Lumineth Battleforce Gallery

Because I am preparing for my first game of AoS 4th Edition and the first army I want to try out, I focused on the Iliathan Warhost Battleforce along the old Spearhead

A unit of 10 painted Auralan Wardens with long spears and blue-trimmed shields in a defensive phalanx formation.

My Goals

Soon I will play a 1.000 point game and for the List Id like to have some choice so this battleforce and the old spearhead already give me a few. I already have the current spearhead and will start working on that soon(ish)

The Painting Journey

Its very much the same as the Spearhead and in fact I even doubled up on some (Sentinels, Wardens and Bladelords) so there were no real surprises here. The Riverblades were the most interesting ones because they have the more intricate armor details compared to the other who have “just” flat plates.

My favorite details

The Riverblade Armor was clearly the standout for me and while it took even longer it was a lot of fun

Challenges & lessons

Usually I really love War Machines and Artillery Pieces, especially if they have this diorama character and the Ballista was no different but I absolutely shouldve painted this one in sub assemblies. When Ill get a second one ill absolutely do so.

Paint recipies

Basics for all minis

Since all Minis use the same scheme I will consolidate everything into 1 list:

  • All miniatures were base coated with White Scar spray
  • Morghast Bone as base on the coats
  • Ultramarines Blue for all cloth, the plumes and runes
  • Gore Grunte Fur for Boots, bags and sword sheaths
  • Wyldwood for weapon handles
  • Vallejo Mecha Color Steel for chainmails and blades
  • Nuln Oil over the entire miniature
  • Corax White on armor Plates and decoration parts
  • Skullcrusher Brass for any golden trim/accessoires
  • Genestealer Purple for any gems.
  • If there were any ruins on the base it was done with Basilicanum grey.

Next Steps

The current spearhead will be worked on next for this army and after that ill probably lean a bit more in the mountain guys. The big centerpiece model looks especially attractive after I tried the armor with the riverblades.
